The Early Social Development Lab at the University of Virginia's Department of Psychology is seeking to hire a Research Specialist to assist with the management of a cross-cultural study (in U.S. and India) of the development and socialization of gratitude among preschool- and early-school-age children. The Research Specialist will be based at the Early Social Development Lab but will assist with organizing, managing, and coordinating research efforts across the two research sites. This position is 100% grant funded.
The successful candidate will be expected to:
- Supervise and train undergraduate research assistants and part-time staff
- Organize and lead research discussion meetings, including with the collaborating lab in India
- Coordinate across sites on research protocols and training
- Quality control on study procedures and data collection at both sites
- Assist with recruitment of participants
- Track and correspond with families and schools
- Conduct interviews and collect data according to procedures
- Support data analysis and summarize results
- Support the preparation of conference presentations and manuscripts for publication
- Maintain research records
- Assist senior researchers by completing tasks that support research operations
- Help create website associated with research project
- Schedule and book facilities
- May purchase supplies via department central purchasing
- Adhere to regulatory research guidelines in daily work
- In addition to the above job responsibilities, other duties may be assigned
The Research Specialist will report to Amrisha Vaish, Associate Professor of Psychology.
Anticipated Hiring Range: $22.00 - $24.00/hr commensurate with education and experience. This is a Non-Exempt level, benefited position.

Position Compensation Range: $16.97 - $33.94 Hourly
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
Education:
- Bachelor's degree in related field.
- B.A. or B.S. in Psychology or Child Development is preferred. Masters degree desirable
Experience:
- Experience working with children and families, using statistical software, complex research designs, coding observational data, and conducting literature searches preferred.
