The UC Berkeley Social Origins Lab (PI: Jan Engelmann) is looking for a full-time lab manager! Our lab conducts comparative and developmental psychology research on the evolutionary origins and developmental trajectory of human prosociality and cooperation. More specifically, we work with children (ages 1-16, with a focus on 3-10 years old) in San Francisco Bay Area schools, museums, and parks and chimpanzees on Ngamba Island in Uganda. The lab manager will be responsible for the day-to-day operations of the lab. A non-exhaustive list of duties includes recruit new data collection sites and maintain relationships with existing sites in the Bay Area, schedule all child data collection appointments, manage (recruit, hire, train, and mentor) 30+ research assistants, process all payments and reimbursements to lab members, amending existing IRB protocols, organize international research trips, and plan all lab social activities. This position requires communication with children, parents, child-care staff, UC Berkeley psychology administration, IRB reviewers, research assistants, graduate students, postdocs, and professors.
The lab manager can expect mentorship from Dr. Engelmann in the pursuit of academic goals and opportunities to pursue independent research. Past managers have been granted authorship on publications and pursued independent projects. If interested, the manager may also be allowed to conduct research with chimpanzees on Ngamba Island.
This position is ideal for those intending to pursue a PhD in comparative and/or developmental psychology.
Required:
· Previous research experience either with children or animals.
· Previous experience working with children.
· Project management skills with strong attention to detail.
· Solid communication and interpersonal skills to communicate effectively with diverse stakeholders both verbally and in writing.
· Solid ability to multi-task with demanding timeframes.
· Ability to use discretion and maintain all confidentiality.
· Ability to use sound judgment in responding to issues and concerns.
· Working skills to analyze information and synthesize large amounts of data with strong attention to detail.
· Working knowledge of Microsoft Office.
· Bachelor's degree in Psychology, Public Health, Development, Social Work, or related field and/or equivalent experience/training.
Preferred:
Demonstrable interest in comparative and/or developmental psychology.
Salary & Benefits
This is a 12-month, full-time (40 hours/week), contract appointment, eligible for UC benefits with the possibility of extension with continued funding. This is a non-exempt, hourly paid position.

This range takes into account the wide range of factors that are considered in making compensation decisions including but not limited to experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, analysis of internal equity, and other business and organizational needs. It is not typical for an individual to be offered a salary at or near the top of the range for a position. Salary offers are determined based on final candidate qualifications and experience.
The budgeted salary or hourly range that the University reasonably expects to pay for this position is $28.30 - $48.71.
