Boeing Commercial Airplanes (BCA) SoCal Stress Interior Responsibilities Center (IRC) team is seeking experienced Interior Stress Analysis Engineers to join our team in Long Beach, California.
We're seeking a highly motivated candidate with experience in stress analysis. The engineer will be responsible for the substantiation of various interior commercial aircraft commodities using classical, empirical, and finite element analysis (FEA) methods. The stress analyst must also be able to effectively communicate technical requirements, analysis and findings to engineers, leads, and managers.
Position Responsibilities:
- Perform and document structural analysis of the following Interior commodities: secondary support, ceiling and lining, furnishing, bins and fairings, and crew rest
- Understand and show compliance with applicable FAA and EASA regulations and requirements for certification
- Create and validate Finite Element Models from 3D CAD models with appropriate modeling assumptions and carry out the analysis of composite panels, inserts, metal bracket, fittings, tab and slots, and adhesive joints
- Substantiate appropriate structures though classical hand analysis
- Determine and predict potential failure modes for analysis
- Coordinate and consult with other teams such as design, proper allowable groups, and teams of interfacing commodities to support in the creation, development, and proper analysis of structural designs
- Review drawings of parts and assemblies to show substantiation through test, analysis, or similarity methods
This position allows telecommuting. The selected candidate will be required to perform some work onsite at one of the listed location options.
This position must meet Export Control compliance requirements, therefore a "U.S. Person" as defined by 22 C.F.R. § 120.15 is required. "U.S. Person" includes U.S. Citizen, lawful permanent resident, refugee, or asylee.
Basic Qualifications (Required Skills/Experience):
- Bachelor, Master or Doctorate of Science degree from an accredited course of study, in engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics or chemistry
- 4+ years of experience using linear and nonlinear statics Finite Element Analysis
- Experience with efficient load paths and structural behavior
- Experience with statics and structural analysis using classical, empirical, and finite element methods
Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills/Experience):
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in one of the following: mechanical engineering, civil engineering, aerospace engineering
- Experience working with the following FEA pre and post processing tools: HyperMesh, HyperView, NASTRAN, and PATRAN
- Experience with durability, fail-safe, and damage tolerance fundamentals
- Experience working with or showing compliance to FAA and EASA regulations
- 4+ years of experience working with 3D CAD models and engineering drawings
Typical Education/Experience:
Mid – Career: Bachelor's degree and typically 5 or more years' experience in an engineering classification or a Master's degree with typically 3 or more years' experience in an engineering classification or a PhD degree with experience in an engineering classification. Bachelor, Master or Doctorate of Science degree from an accredited course of study, in engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics or chemistry. ABET is the preferred, although not required, accreditation standard.
Expert: Bachelor's degree and typically 9 or more years' experience in an engineering classification or a Master's degree with typically 7 or more years' experience in an engineering classification or a PhD degree with typically 4 or more years' experience in an engineering classification. Bachelor, Master or Doctorate of Science degree from an accredited course of study, in engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics or chemistry. ABET is the preferred, although not required, accreditation standard.

Salary:
Mid – Career: $98,700 – $134,650
Expert: $122,700 – $161,650
