In this role, you will:
- Assist in the completion of the month-end consolidation process including:
- Posting consolidating journal entries
- Take ownership of the completion of individual sections of the monthly executive reporting file as assigned by the lead
- Reviewing budget to actual results and investigate variances
- Apply accounting knowledge to attempt to identify accounting issues, and work to resolve them with assistance from senior staff or managers
- Preparation of consolidated and standalone financial statements.
- Preparation of complex accounting workbooks such as the cash flow, investments and related party transactions
- Assist and support senior staff and managers with the year-end audit by:
- Running reports
- Answering questions from auditors with the assistance of senior staff and managers as required
- Act as a resource and provide guidance to coop students
- Other ad-hoc duties, such as required such as:
- Drafting accounting memos when required (although most memos are primarily handled by the Manager of Complex Accounting's team)
- Assistance with reforecast and budgeting processes as required
- Assistance with training Jr. and Co-op staff
We would like you to have:
- Professional accounting designation, or in the final stages of attaining (CPA)
- An undergraduate degree with a specialization in accounting (or equivalent)
- At least 2-3 years of progressive accounting work experience preparing financial statements
- Experience using IFRS is an asset
- Independent, self-starter and ability to self-manage
- Ability to apply IFRS and knowledge of the business to identify issues
- W-Desk, NewStar, Yardi or SAP experience is an asset
- Real estate or construction experience is an asset
- Willingness to work beyond the traditional workday to meet deadlines and deliver results
