AnLar is looking for a highly motivated and detail-oriented individual to support research and evaluation projects. This opportunity will provide administrative support to multiple projects that involve analysis of K-12 data, providing quality assurance, transferring statistical data to data tables and visualizations, conducting primary data collection, and supporting project management. This position provides the opportunity to gain experience directly supporting applied research. All AnLar employees are able to use our Arlington, VA offices at their discretion, and preference will be given to candidates in the Arlington, VA, or Philadelphia, PA area. The anticipated start date for this position is November 1, 2024.

This position will support multiple education and data initiatives at AnLar, including:
- Research Support: AnLar provides external evaluation support to state education agencies, local education agencies, higher education institutions, and other groups. Our work involves summarizing information and data from multiple sources to prepare quarterly and annual progress reports. This involves reading and interpreting information and making reasonable conclusions. It also includes making tables, graphs, and writing summaries. We produce different summaries for different audiences. This position may include assistance with data collection in schools, including coordinating completion of consent forms, and times for in-person data collection. This position may also involve using an existing observational rubric to classify and evaluate instructional practices and behaviors. The ideal candidate will be excited to use Excel, SAS, Stata or R to conduct basic statistical analyses (counts, summation, averages, variance). Lastly, candidates should be familiar with citation formatting and bibliographic standards.
- Project Management Support: The research associate will provide logistical and project management support to multiple research projects and the research team (maintain a project calendar, document decisions and implications, take notes during meetings, and track status of different tasks and deliverables). Candidates should be comfortable coordinating with schools and external partners.
- Data Collection Support: The research associate will prepare data collection tools (such as programming online surveys, setting up Google forms, etc.), assist with scheduling interviews, and follow data collection protocols. Candidates will need to be able to reliably use an existing qualitative coding instrument to code observations of programs (training in using the instrument will be provided).
- Dissemination: The research associate will help disseminate the findings from our projects by writing summaries and memos and helping to develop materials such as infographics.
- Required:
- Curiosity about educational programs and what makes different programs effective.
- Strong writing and communication skills.
- Interest in developing content knowledge around school-based coaching, mental health and whole child supports, science education, and math education among other topics.
- Familiarity and comfort with Excel.
- Coachable and open to giving and receiving feedback.
- Professionalism in communication and approach to solving problems.
- A team player. You step up when someone needs help, follow through on your commitments, and are willing to go the extra mile for your team and our clients.
- Living and working within the U.S., a federal client requirement.
- Preferred, but not required:
- Experience supporting applied research projects in the education space.
- Interest and experience working with data and conducting analyses.
- Training or experience conducting research or environmental scans.
- Degree in public policy, education policy, sociology, research, or a related field is preferred.
