We are seeking a highly motivated Sterile Compounding Pharmacy Technician to join our team. The ideal candidate will have experience in infusion, compounding pharmacy or hospital setting. The Pharmacy Technician would be a California registered technician who under the supervision of the Pharmacist, is responsible for performing all activities associated with the compounding of formulations based upon the high standards of the compounding practices.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Rotate through all work areas of the compounding laboratory/pharmacy.
- Prescription preparation, packaging and labeling of preparations including but not limited to: Compounding Sterile Preparations (CSPs) IV Injectables.
- Operate, monitor, and maintain work area and compounding equipment in a sanitary fashion.
- Maintain documentation as required for all preparations in a neat and organized fashion.
- Maintain/Manage inventory of bulk chemicals, supplies and compounded items.
- Prepare, package and label Compounded Sterile Preparations (CSPs)
- Acts as a liaison with nursing and medical staff concerning basic pharmaceutical information to achieve positive patient outcomes.
- Inspect and take corrective action to ensure proper maintenance and cleanliness of the facility and compounding equipment.
- Communicates effectively with all levels of staff. Fosters the development of teamwork within the department while meeting the needs of departments being served.
- Demonstrates the ability to assess a situation, consider the alternatives and choose an appropriate course of action.
- Participates in educational programs and in-service meetings.
- Assist in training new employee.
- Assist other staff as necessary.
- Comply with all QA and accreditation programs.
Required Skills and Abilities
- Ability to work independently and to work well with others in the sterile compounding environment.
- Must be detail oriented and organized.
- Ability to handle high work volume accurately at a fast pace.
- Must have professional level communication skills, both written and verbal
- Ability to multi-task
- Requires analytical and statistical knowledge using general business mathematical skills.
- Ability to maintain standards protecting client confidentiality.
Experience and Education Requirement
- High School or equivalent
- Post High School Vocational/Specialized Training Or graduation from a foreign School of Pharmacy.
- One year performing related duties or graduation from a Pharmacy Technician training program.
- One year of experience in infusion or hospital setting, preferred.
- One year of IV sterile compounding experience (including hazardous compounding)
- Excellent computer skills including Microsoft Windows, Word, and Excel.
- Experience with helping create SOP's.
- Excellent sterile technique.
Physical Requirements
- Must be able to lift from floor to waist up to 25 pounds.
- Requires standing and/or sitting for long periods of time.
- Use of hands, arms, eyes, and voice.
- Must be able to read, write, and communicate fluently in English.
- Must be able to give and receive verbal and written instructions.
- Must be comfortable handling biological specimens.
- Must possess the ability to utilize visual and auditory senses to complete all job duties as assigned.
