Why did this article catch your attention?
This article caught my attention because Poundstetcher are to cut their workforce by 1,000 employees, after their sales dropped.
Where and when Poundstetcher reduce their workforce by 1,000?
The 1,000 Poundstetcher employees have already lost their jobs between March 2021 and March 2022, but only mentions that 17 of the 371 Poundstetcher stores closed in the last financial year.
How would you affect the 1,000 Poundstetcher employees?
The 1,000 Poundstetcher employees would be affected financially most of all, as they would go from being in paid employment to claiming Universal Credit (unemployment benefits).
Working in Customer Service and Retail, employees would generally be on their feet for all of their shifts. So, they would be worse off physically.
Job search is demoralising, so their mental health is at higher risk.
Who else would this affect?
It's not just the 1,000 Poundstetcher employees who would be affected. Here's a list of others who would also be affected:
- Customers - Customers would have to wait longer in queues, and may decide to go elsewhere to do do their shopping.
- The Government - The Government would not receive taxes from the 1,000 Poundstetcher employees until they have found alternative employment elsewhere. They would also have to pay out money in Universal Credit payments.
I am one 1,000 Poundstetcher employees. What can I do to seek alternative employment elsewhere?
After completing Company Hunts in Crawley Town Centre, I have noticed that there are more Customers Service and Retail jobs going.
Though a lot of vacancies are online, most of the jobs require you to hand in your CV and some do require you to apply online. So, keep an eye out on shop windows to see what vacancies are available, and how to apply.
