If that's got caught my attention because thousands of High Street employees are at risk losing their jobs due to the coronavirus (Covid-19) pandemic.
What does this mean for the affected employees?
This means that the thousands of High Street employees will go from being paid employment to claiming Universal Credit (unemployment benefits) at just over £300 per month.
They would also be affected mentally and physically.
Who else would be affected by this?
It's not just a High Street employees who would be hit in the pocket. He's a list of others who would also be affected:
Customers - Customers are more likely going to be waiting longer in a queue at each affected company and could potentially leave to go either to a different store or different company altogether. There is also a higher chance of their customers going online.
The Affected Companies - Yes, if the High Street companies reduce the amount of their workforce by closing down stores, they would slow the losses down. However, if they closed down stores when there are profits, they would miss out on some of those profits.
Employees' Families - Families of those affected employees may lend their respective family members money, which would need to be paid back.
The Government - With all of these job losses, the Government would not receive taxes from the affected employees. The Government would also have to pay out just over £300 per person, per month, but this would reduce for every person who finds alternative employment elsewhere.
