The Department of History invites applications for a nine-month appointment as an Assistant Professor in History. This tenure track faculty position will begin August 14, 2023. Probationary teaching load is 2/2. Area of specialization is within American Maritime History. The successful candidate will have an active research agenda and will teach courses in the area of American maritime, naval, and military history, from 1500 to the present, as well as introductory surveys in US and World history. Other responsibilities include advising and mentoring of undergraduate and graduate students. Service to the university, community, and profession is expected. This appointment is contingent upon available funding.
Applicants should have the ability to utilize identity-conscious, culturally sensitive, and inclusive teaching strategies that engage with diverse experiences and worldviews. The Maritime Historian will be committed to diversity, equity, and inclusion in hiring, resource allocations, promotion, research, engagement, and teaching. They will broaden participation among members of underrepresented groups; integrate diverse experiences and multiple perspectives as the foundation for a rich learning experience; and provide leadership to meet the needs of diverse learning styles, populations, and intellectual interests.
For an appointment as Assistant Professor, PhD in History is required. Qualifying degrees must be from appropriately accredited institutions. Degree must be conferred prior to application. Teaching experience and research specialization in teaching area or closely related field, expertise in relevant languages.
