Purpose: The Director, Maritime Business Development and Strategy will work with the VP Business Development and Strategy (VPBDS) to develop, plan and execute winning business success in home and international markets and integrate into the broader DRS and Leonardo Corporation.
They will ensure success in taking DRS' Canadian cutting edge maritime communications and electro-optics products to home and international markets.
Major Roles and Responsibilities: Maintain and grow the maritime business lines over the next five (5) years working with VPBDS and the winning business group; Ambassador and evangelist for DRS in Canada and beyond, championing products, culture and values of the company in core markets to new and potential customers; Provide leadership across the execution of the winning business lifecycle (campaigns, capture, proposals, submissions and closure) for all maritime pursuits; Provide the themes and underpinning messages for DRS' internal and external communications endeavours; Responsible for maritime pipeline including timely bookings forecasting; and Responsible for management of allocated Bid & Proposal funding.
Core Competencies: Proven Business Development leadership abilities to plan, execute and win significant opportunities and positively needle move the size of the business; Ability to provide cross functional leadership to informal multi-disciplinary teams; Flexibility to understand people and their own abilities to influence outcomes with customers and internal stakeholders; Ability to work, set goals, think and succeed independently after receiving strategic intent from the VPBDS.
Capable of managing risk and setting the correct tempo of reporting with the broader team and VPBDS; Previous experience presenting compelling and attractive arguments to internal and external audiences at very senior levels while still engaging in tactical conservations measured to the audience.
In particular, must be able to parse simply complex technical and financial data to a lay audience; Demonstrated ability to drive closure on submissions, opportunities and projects across the business cycle including RFI responses, ROM pricing through establishing solutions and timely proposal submission; Possess an extensive knowledge and Naval Communications/Combat System Market experience and an excellent personal network; Proven abilities of working internationally including '5 eyes' markets and beyond; Understanding of US Procurement Processes would be considered an asset; Understanding of International Traffic in Arms Regulations and Canadian Industrial and Technological Benefits; Background as an Engineer or Technologist or proven abilities complimented with experience interacting with engineering and production teams internally and with technical customers more broadly; Possession of a Project Management Professional certification, a member of the Association of Proposal Management Professionals and understanding of Managed Service Providers would be an asset; Willingness to travel including internationally; and Superior leadership, problem-solving, critical thinking, negotiation, presentation interpersonal, and communication skills are required.
