Purpose:
Overview:
The Management and Entrepreneurship Department of the LeaveySchool of Business at Santa Clara University invites applicationsfor a tenure-track Assistant Professor position in Business Ethics,beginning in September 2023.
We invite applications from individuals working at the frontiersof business ethics. We encourage applications from candidates witha background in normative ethics – the branch of philosophicalethics that investigates questions of how one ought to act – aswell as from those with academic specializations in the relatedfields of management, organizational behavior, organizationaltheory, sociology, psychology, and law, provided they have teachingcompetencies in normative business ethics.
Successful candidates will have a doctoral degree or equivalent inbusiness ethics, philosophy, management, or a closely related fieldfrom an accredited university. The terminal degree must becompleted, or near completion, by the start date. Candidates musthave a demonstrated ability to publish their research inhigh-quality, peer-reviewed scholarly journals. They should beprepared to teach applied business ethics and managerialdecision-making as they relate to business and societal contexts.Demonstrated excellence in teaching (at the undergraduate and/orgraduate levels) is expected.
Basic Qualifications
The Leavey School of Business and Santa Clara University have along tradition of excellence in normative business ethics. Thecourses a successful applicant will be expected to teach at theundergraduate and MBA levels require instructors to assure learningin normative ethics. Accordingly, applicants should have a Ph.D. orequivalent in business ethics, philosophy, or a closely relatedfield, and must be capable of teaching courses in normativebusiness ethics. The Ph.D. must be completed, or near completion,by the start date. Candidates must have a demonstrated ability topublish original research on normative business ethics topics inhigh-quality peer-reviewed scholarly journals such as BusinessEthics Quarterly and the Journal of Business Ethicsand also have demonstrated excellence in teaching at theundergraduate and/or graduate level.
Responsibilities:
(A ) Teaching undergraduate and/or graduate courses inbusiness ethics and other related topics and fulfilling theresponsibilities associated with those courses;
(B) Maintaining a program of research leading to publications inhigh-quality journals; and,
(C) Providing suitable service to the Department, University,profession, and/or community.
