COVID-19 vaccine effectiveness data are currently unavailable in sub-Saharan Africa. In addition, conducting post-introduction CVE studies in sub-Saharan Africa will increase science-based evidence, public confidence, demand, and utilization of availablevaccines.Thisstudy aimstomeasureoverallandproduct-specificCVEagainst laboratory-confirmed SARS-CoV-2 infections associated withsevere respiratory illness.The project is pleased to announce the following vacant position(s). JobSummary:Working underthe directsupervision of the study coordinator.The primary responsibilityofthepositionistoregisterstudyparticipants,collectdata,conductphysical examinations, and collectapplicablespecimens/samplefor testing for influenzaand SARS-CoV2,and toensure the specimen are stored and transported as per the standard operating procedures. Duties and Responsibilities: 1.Work closely withinthehospital'striage area to review the chief complaint ofpatientspresenting in the health facility. 2.Determine whether any of the patient(s)fit the case definitionsfor surveillance. 3.If the case definitions are met, complete the data collection forms, and collect nasopharyngeal, oropharyngealand nasalswabs from the patient. 4.Ensure that supplies are sufficient, and re-order as necessary. 5.Work closely with the national surveillance coordinator who will oversee activities at the sentinel sites. 6.Work closely with the hospital disease surveillance and infection control teamsin implementing containment measures 7.Coordinate implementation of sub-studies as planned by the influenza project(s) 8.Work closely with the Ministry of Health to sensitize and coordinate IDSR disease surveillance activities at the hospital 9.Assist in monitoring and evaluation activities to document activities and provide quality assurance to improve program service delivery Terms of Employment:Contractfor 1year renewable as per KEMRI schemes of service. Probation period for the first 3 months. Salary negotiable within the appropriate grade depending on education, experience and demonstrated competency.
