Job Description

Reporting to the Local Procurement Manager of Nigeria and Kenya, the Associate Local Procurement Manager (Kenya), will be responsible to efficiently implement all local sourcing strategies in Kenya, as well as to identify, propose and implement local procurement improvement initiatives.

 Your goal will be to achieve significant year-on-year cost and productivity improvements, while maintaining or improving product quality and vendor service levels. You will be responsible for all the local spend including manufacturing, commercial and other services (logistics, HR, etc.)

You will work closely with key stakeholders (both internal and external) in member organizations and in corporate functions to develop effective cost reduction strategies and implementation plans. Additionally, you will provide support for the implementation of Global and Regional family strategies.

Specific families in this role's perimeter, include:  Local Direct Material; local MRO services, local CAPEX spend, and local indirect spend, such as waste management; local HR (Consulting, relocation, internal events, administration outsourcing).

As the leader responsible for sourcing effectiveness within Local families, the Local Buyer will have the following specific responsibilities:

  • Implement the sourcing strategies identified for Local families within your perimeter
  • Identify, prioritize and propose sourcing projects for Local families. You will lead cross-functional Local teams in the development of sourcing strategies and execution plans.
  • Follow-up Stake Holders requirements and proceed at RFQs and Tenders according to the Group Procurement Policy and Procurement Strategic Objectives
  • Monitor, audit and ensure the proper implementation of the Group Procurement Policy at a local level
  • Work with internal customers and suppliers to resolve issues related to purchased materials, including product/material/service quality, invoicing and returning.
  • Directly solve operational issues with suppliers (e.g., quality, delivery and service issues).
  • Hold regular supplier reviews and audits
  • Negotiate the procurement terms and prices of local category spend assigned
  • Contract management of local category spend assigned
  • Drive annual productivity improvements in Local families. Develop, champion, and ensure implementation of ideas that will optimize the Group's total cost of ownership year-over-year for Local families according to Group guidelines
  • Monitor Local family supplier performance & risk.

Qualifications

  • BA required in Business Management, Supply Chain, or related field from accredited university.
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in procurement as a Buyer in a multinational procurement organization. Working experience in a FMCG industry will be an asset
  • Ability to work in a collaborative, team-oriented environment
  • Demonstrated ability to meet deadlines, multi-task, and provide exceptional customer service
  • Strong organization and time management skills
  • Strong negotiation skills
  • Fluent in English; excellent communication skills in English -- written and oral
  • Strong project management / planning skills
  • Exceptional problem-solving and analytical skills
  • Acts with courage - ability to challenge status quo
  • Should have foundational understanding and knowledge of Manufacturing - Production - Quality Control
